Continuous measurement
Measuring instance of behavior during a period.
Frequency/Count
Recording every instance of a target behavior. (Counting how many times a horse goes around a track)
Rate
Recording every instance of a target behavior per specific time interval and calculating an average. (Counting how many times a singer sings a specific word per minute)
Duration
Recording how long a person engages in a behavior. ( timing how long a child engages in a tantrum)
Latency
Recording the time between a certain event and the occurrence of a target behavior (BcBa asks you to time how long it takes your student to follow an instruction)
Interresponse Time (IRT)
Recording the time between the occurrence of a behavior, and the next occur that same behavior ( student asks question and you track how much times passes between one question to next)
Discontinuous measurement
Measuring some but not all instance of a behavior, resulting in an estimated measurement.
Partial interval
Recording if the behavior has occurred at all during a set interval of time. AT ALL
Whole interval
Recording if the behavior has occurred throughout the entire set interval of time. WHOLE
Momentary Time Sampling
Recording whether the behavior has occurred at the precise end of the interval only. END
Free Operant
Put out many options and record duration of engagement with each item.
Paired Stimulus/Forced Choice
Present 2 items at a time, multiple times each, and record the frequency with which is each is chosen.
Multiple Stimulus
Present Multiple items and record frequency and order in which they are chosen.
A
Antecedent (before)
B
Behavior
C
Consequence (after)
Discrete Trial Training
systemic method for presenting learning opportunities. “Discrete” means individually separate and distinct.
Naturalistic Teaching
observes the natural environment and the clients natural motivation to find learning opportunities.
Chaining
teaching a sequence of response that, together, make up the steps of a task.
Forward Chaining
client learns the first step, bt does the rest.
Backward chaining
client learns the last step, bt does the rest.
Shaping
Teaching during which more and more accurate versions of the target response are reunited as the client practice
