What do all acids contain
Hydrogen
Acid + metal ——>
Salt + hydrogen
What are the two acids we need to know about with reacting with water
Hydrochloric acid
Sulfuric acid
What salts do hydrochloric acid produce
Ones ending in chloride
What salts do Sulfuric acid produce
Ones ending in sulfate
Hydrochloric acid + magnesium —→
Magnesium chloride + hydrogen
Sulfuric acid + magnesium —→
Magnesium Sulfate + Hydrogen
How does magnesium react with acids and why
Rapidly as magnesium is quite a lot more reactive than hydrogen so can easily displace it
Hydrochloric acid + zinc —→
Zinc chloride + hydrogen
Sulfuric acid + zinc——>
Zinc Sulfate + Hydrogen
How does zinc react with acids
Quite rapidly as it can quite easily displace it from acids
Hydrochloric acid + iron ——>
Iron chloride + Hydrogen
Sulfuric acid + iron —→
Iron Sulfate + Hydrogen
How does iron react with acids
Fairly slowly as it is only slightly more reactive than hydrogen
