Acculturation
The process of adapting to adopting parts of a new culture while still possibly keeping parts of your original culture.
Assimilation
When a person fully adopts a new culture & loses most or all of their original cultural identity.
Cultural Competence
The ability of healthcare providers to understand, respect & effectively care for people from different cultural backgrounds.
Culturally Congruent Care
Nursing or health care that is tailored to fit a patients. Cultural Cultural values, beliefs, & practice.
Cultural Openness
Being willing to learn about & accept different cultures without judgement.
Culture
The shared beliefs, values, customs, behaviors, & traditions of a group of people
Discrimination
Treating someone unfairly based on characteristics like race, ethnicity, gender, or culture.
Enculturation
The process of learning your own culture from birth through family & community.
Ethnicity
A group identity based on Shared Culture, language, nationality or ancestry.
Ethnocentrism
Believing your own culture is superior to others & using it as the standard to judge others.
Generalization
A broad idea about a group that may or may not be accurate for every individual in that group.
