Thermal Cracking
A type of elimination reaction that alkanes undergo to break large alkane molecules into smaller fragments of alkanes and alkenes.
Conditions include:
High Pressure
Low Temperature
No catalyst
Zaitseu's Rule
Eliminate off adjacent carbons with the least hydrogens
A Saturated Compound
A compound in which all of the bonds between carbon atoms are single bonds
An Unsaturated Compound
A compound in which there is at least one double/or reiple bond between carbon atoms
A Functional Group
An atom or group of atome that form the centre of chemical activity in the molecule
Homologous series
A series of similar compounds which all have the same functional group and have the same general formula in which each member differs from the previous by one CH2 unit

Compounds having the same molecular formula but different structural formulae
