it failed and Castro was arrested, 55 rebels were executed

at his trial he made his famous speech

while in jail he made a manifesto " history will absolve me" the key points in it was improving land reform, housing shortage, living standards, education opportunities, medical care

Castro's father in law saved him from the death penalty, he received a 15 year sentence

1955, Castro left prison as an act of amnesty on Mothers day
