UK Legislative System
The legal framework governing the laws and regulations in the UK, particularly related to pharmacy.
Medicines Act 1968
An important piece of primary legislation that regulates the sale and supply of medicines in the UK.
Primary Legislation
Acts of Parliament that lay down general principles and are enacted by Parliament.
Bill
A proposal to introduce new legislation, which can be a government bill or a private member's bill.
Royal Assent
Formal approval by the monarch that turns a bill into an act.
Secondary Legislation
Legislation made by an individual or body under powers given to them by an Act of Parliament; often in the form of statutory instruments.
Judicial Precedent
Also known as case law, it refers to legal principles developed through court decisions in previous similar cases.
Statutory Instruments (SI)
A form of secondary legislation that provides detailed regulations and is derived from Acts.
Enabling Act
An Act that delegates powers to other bodies to create detailed laws or regulations.
Common Law
Law that is developed through court decisions rather than through legislative statutes.
