APHASIA= ALPHABET problem

Apraxia

Problem: Motor planning

The client:

• Understands the task

• Has adequate strength

• Cannot organize the movement sequence

APRAXIA=PLAN is missing

Ataxia

Problem: Coordination

The client:

• Has strength

• Understands task

• Cannot control movement accurately

Signs:

• Shaky reaching

• Overshooting target

• Wide-based gait

ATAXIA=TARGET missed

Agnosia

Problem: Recognition

The client:

• Can see the object

• Can touch the object

• Cannot identify the object

Ex: can look at a toothbrush but can’t name it

A-G-NOSIA= NO idea what it is

Akinesia

Problem: Difficulty initiating movement

Common with:

• Parkinson's Disease

Signs:

• Freezing

• Delayed movement start

A-Kinesia= can’t KICKSTART movement

Astereognosis

Problem: Cannot identify object through touch

Vision is blocked.

The client:

• Feels object

• Cannot identify object

Ex: Eyes closed, holds a key but cannot identify it.
