Away from the body surface; more internal

Frontal (coronal) plane
longitudinal plane that divides the specimen into anterior and posterior

Transverse Plane
horizontal plane that divides the specimen into superior and inferior parts and is called a cross-section

Sagittal Plane
longitudinal plane that divides the specimen into right and left
Oblique Plane
A diagonal plane in any direction
Parasagittal Plane
Vertical plane that does not divide into 2 equal right and left sides (off of the midline)
Midsagittal Plane
plane is right at the midline cutting the specimen into equal parts
