Marshall Plan
An American initiative passed in 1948 to provide economic aid to Western Europe to help rebuild economies after the devastation of World War II.
Warsaw Pact
A military alliance of communist nations in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union, established in 1955 as a response to NATO.
Korean War
A conflict between North Korea (with the support of China and the Soviet Union) and South Korea (with the support of the United Nations, primarily the United States) from 1950 to 1953.
Second Red Scare
A period of intense anti-communism in the United States during the late 1940s and 1950s, characterized by McCarthyism and widespread fear of communist infiltration.
Kennedy assassination
The assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas.
