Lizzy: And you're here to audition for a role in the Resting Seductress. Correct?
Yes! My name is Eve and I will be auditioning for the role of Princess Aurora Borealis.
Lizzy: Thank you! That was truly wonderful. Now I know your audition was for Princess, but you have a flair for the dramatic, and I believe you would make an excellent Evil Enchantress.
Oh wow, that would be amazing-
Tom: No, no, you've got it all wrong. Look at her! She's clearly a Princess: young and beautiful, not some evil witch. I mean, she has a flower crown! Hands her a packet. Here, your script for Princess.
Right, yes, of course. I guess if I look the part, it makes sense if I just do it.
Act 3 Scene 2
So…what now?
Simon: I'm confused about what to do.
Well, as the only man left, I guess you're in charge.
Julia: Well, yes, Winston walked us right into a trap, and then gave me half the blame.
Like Adam. We both ate the fruit, but somehow he always managed to blame me. Pause. I almost didn't give it to him. After I ate it, I realized that we could finally be equal. But he would've just replaced me.
Julia: But without Winston, I couldn't rebel…Or maybe instead I could tell the truth about the Big Brother's lies. I could get the other resistance workers to help.
You'd be good at that.
Scout: Tom was pretty much wrong about everything.
You know, maybe Lizzy was right about my audition. Everyone keeps expecting me to smile and be a princess, but it can get exhausting. The enchantress could be kind of fun.
Simon: I don’t know yet
Well, I thought your monologue was really good. I’m sure you’d be great in any role.
Act 3 Scene 3
Hi Lizzy.
Lizzy Oh, sorry, I needed a minute.
Are you ok?
Lizzy: Sighs. Not really. I don't know what to do. I thought that if I just worked hard enough, everything would just…work out.
You did work hard, and you've turned your ideas into something amazing. This play is incredible.
Lizzy: But now we've lost Tom's support- his money and his reputation.
Do you think the play only mattered because of Tom?
Lizzy: No, of course not.
Then what made it work?
Lizzy: Pause. It was the people. The actors, the story, everyone understanding the characters the way I wrote them.
Exactly. And all of that is still here. Pause. If money is the problem, have you thought about asking Darcy for help?
Lizzy: Oh, I could never ask Darcy for help. I mean, he'd say yes, but then the play would be his.
Would he really do that to you? He must know how much this show means to you.
Lizzy: Ye-well, no. Darcy and I are partners-- he respects me. He hears me. But I don't want people thinking I need my husband to help me succeed.
Is accepting support the same thing as giving up control?
Lizzy: No…I suppose it isn’t
Even actors can't perform without supporting and trusting each other.
Lizzy: Guys, Tom is gone, but I have a plan. Beat. Where did everyone go?
That's strange…they were all here just a minute ago.
Lizzy: You know, I think you’re all exactly right for those roles. Eve, would you be our Enchantress?
I’d love to
Yours, Darcy
Lizzy is going to direct the play on her own!
