Parousia
The second coming of Christ
Preterism
Eschatological view that interprets some (partial preterism) or all (full preterism) prophecies of the Bible as events that have already been fulfilled in history.
Second Coming of Christ
The sudden, personal, visible, bodily return of Christ from heaven to earth.
Amillennialism
The view that there will be no literal thousand-year bodily reign of Christ on earth prior to the final judgment and the eternal state; on this view, scriptural references to the millennium in Revelation 20 actually describe the present church age.
Dispensational-Premillennialism
Another term for “pretribulation premillennialism.” The term “dispensational” is used because most proponents of this view wish to maintain a clear distinction between the church and Israel, with whom God deals under different arrangements, or “dispensations.”
Millennium
A term that refers to the period of 1,000 years mentioned in Revelation 20:4-5 as the time of the reign of Christ and believers over the earth.
Postmillennialism
The view that Christ will return to the earth after the millennium. In this view, the millennium is an age of peace and righteousness on the earth, brought about the progress of the gospel and the growth of the church.
Rapture
The “taking up” or snatching up of believers to be with Christ when he returns to the earth.
Eternal Conscious-Punishment
A description of the nature of punishment in hell, which will be unending and of which the unbeliever will be fully aware.
Great White Throne Judgment
Another term for the final judgment spoken of in Revelation 20:11-15
Hell
A place of eternal conscious punishment for the wicked.
Universalism
The doctrine that all people will ultimately be saved.
Heaven
The place where God most fully makes known his presence to bless. It is in heaven where God most fully reveals his glory, and where angels, other heavenly creatures, and redeemed saints all worship him.
New Heavens-and-Earth
A description of the entirely renewed creation in which new believers will dwell after the final judgment.
