Element
A substance made up of only one type of atom that cannot be separated into anything simpler.
Chemical symbol
A one- or two-letter abbreviation used to represent an element.
First letter (Chemical Symbol)
The part of a chemical symbol that is always capital.
Second letter (Chemical Symbol)
The part of a chemical symbol that is lowercase, if it exists.
Chemical Symbol Rule 1
A rule stating that some elements use only the first letter of their English name.
Hydrogen
An element represented by the chemical symbol H.
Oxygen
An element represented by the chemical symbol O.
