What is the charge of a proton?
Positive.
What are the two types of electricity?
Static electricity and Current electricity.
How are the two types of electricity the same?
They are the same because they involve the involve the movement of electrons.
How are the two types of electricity different?
One moves then stops while the other is continuous flow of electrons.
What are conductors?
Materials that allow the movement of electrons.
Example: Silver and gold.
What are fair conductors?
They allow the same electrons to pass through.
Examples: Saltwater and moist
What are insulators?
They stop movement of electrons from passing through.
Example: Plastic and rubber.
Can protons move?
No.
Can electrons move?
Yes.
Laws of Attraction.
1) Two opposites will attract to each other
2) To with the same charge will repel.
3) A charged object will attract to a neutral object.
What are three basic components required for a circuit?
A battery, wire, and lightbulb.
What are optional components of a curcuit?
A switch, resistor, voltmeter, ammeter, and an ohmmeter.
What can turn a turbine?
Wind, water, and steam.
How do you make steam?
Burn coal and from uranium.
Why can protons not move?
Because they are in the nucleus.
Principals of Electricity.
1) Protons are not able to move
2) Electrons are able to move
3) Friction allows electrons to move
4) Neutral objects that have the same of positive and negative charge
Describe two ways we can use static.
Air purifiers: To remove dust and smoke from the air
Photocopiers: To place toner on paper
What is a current?
It is a continuous flow of electrons through a conductor such as a wire.
What is voltage?
It is a force that pushes electrons through a current.
What is resistance?
It controls the flow of electrical charge.
What is an electrostatic Series?
Higer equals positive. Lower equals negative.
How does a ballon stick to a wall?
Negatives in the ballon repel the negatives in the wall. When the ballon sees the positive wall, they will attract.
What does charging by contact mean?
Charging with the same charge.
What does charge by induction mean?
Changing with a different charge.
How do we measure a current?
An ammeter.
What is voltage?
How much energy electrons carry.
What is resistance?
How much they are stopping the flow.
