Helped slavery expand due to the amount of land on offer towards plantation owners in the south but also helped encourage people to migrate west causing the introduction of more states

Helped expand slavery since owners needed more slaves to pick cotton faster to keep up with the machines speed it also meant that new variations of cotton were able to grow Alabama and Mississippi became new states thanks to the cotton kingdom
