Supraspinatus
Muscle that originates from the supraspinous fossa of the scapula and is responsible for abduction of the arm.
Infraspinatus
Muscle located below the spinous scapula that laterally rotates the arm.
Teres Minor
A muscle involved in lateral rotation of the arm, originating from the scapula and inserting into the lateral humerus.
Teres Major
Muscle that extends and adducts the arm, originating from the scapula; not part of the rotator cuff.
Latissimus Dorsi
A muscle that extends and adducts the arm, extending from the spines of vertebrae T7-L5 to the medial humerus.
Deltoid
Shoulder muscle responsible for abduction, flexion, extension, and rotation of the arm.
Subscapularis
Muscle that rotates the arm medially at the shoulder joint, located at the anterior scapula.
Rotator Cuff Muscles
Group of muscles including supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis that stabilize the shoulder joint.
Iliocostalis
Lateral muscle that extends from the ilium to the ribs, part of the muscles that maintain the erect spinal column.
Longissimus
Intermediate muscle running from the transverse process and vertebrae up to the head and neck.
Spinalis
Medial muscle located at the midline of the spine, involved in maintaining posture.
Biceps Brachii
Muscle originating from the coracoid process, responsible for flexion of the elbow.
Triceps Brachii
Muscle that extends the elbow, originating from the posterior-lateral scapula and humerus.
Quadriceps
Group of muscles that extend the knee and flex the hip, including rectus femoris and vastus muscles.
Sartorius
Muscle that flexes the hip and abducts the femur, originating from the iliac spine.
Psoas Major
Muscle that flexes the hip and laterally rotates the femur, originating from the lumbar vertebrae.
Iliacus
Muscle that works with the psoas major to flex the hip and laterally rotates the femur.
Gluteus Maximus
Muscle responsible for extending and laterally rotating the hip, originating from the posterior pelvis.
Hamstrings
Group of muscles (semimembranosus, semitendinosus, biceps femoris) that flex the knee.
Gastrocnemius
Calf muscle that shapes the posterior leg, visible when bending during calf workouts.
Tibialis Anterior
Muscle that can cause shin splints when overused; located at the front of the lower leg.
