Health
A holistic state when complete physical, mental, social and cultural well being both for individuals and communities and is influenced by complex interactions.
Lifestyle behaviours
Individual factors that influence health, such as proper nutrition and regular physical activity.
Social determinants of health
Non medical factors that shape health outcomes, encompassing the conditions in which people are born, work, live and age.
Economic stability
A dimension of social determinants of health including factors like income, employment, and debt.
Education (Social Determinant)
A dimension of social determinants of health involving quality schooling; low levels can reduce health literacy and limit employment.
Preventative health measures
Actions taken to address underlying causes of chronic diseases and promote healthier lifestyles, including education, screenings, and healthy routines.
Physical activity
Engagement that improves cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and metabolic health while reducing risk for type 2 diabetes, obesity, and some cancers.
Mental health awareness
Equipping community members with knowledge about common mental health conditions, symptoms, and factors contributing to wellbeing to foster empathy and early recognition.
Health promotion
The process of enabling individuals and communities to take control of their health by providing knowledge and resources necessary for informed health choices.
Healthy street program
A local initiative where community members, health professionals, and councils collaborate to redesign neighbourhood streets to encourage walking, cycling, and social interaction.
Mortality
The number of deaths in a population.
Morbidity
Illness or disease in a population.
Social justice (PEAR)
An framework composed of Participation, equity, access and rights.
Epidemiology
The study of patterns, causes and effects of health in populations.
Self-efficiency
One of the set of skills young people need to develop and build.
Help seeking behaviours
A skill set young people need to develop to manage their health.
Resilience
A protective skill young people need to develop and build.
Coping strategies
Methods young people need to develop to handle health and life challenges.
Sense of purpose
A psychological skill young people need to develop for their overall wellbeing.
