U line Neckline or U Neckline
narrow scooped neckline shaped like the letter “U”
similar to horseshow neckline

Scoop Neckline
open, low, and round neckline

Sweetheart Neckline
curved bottom edge that is concave down and usually resembles half of a heart
side edges often converge on the neck, similar to halter necklines
accentuate bosom

Keyhole Neckline
smaller decorative opening that resembles a keyhole below the neckline

Halter Neckline
a V-neck or scoop or jewel front neckline
straps that wrap around and connect at the nape of the neck

Boat or Bateau Neckline
high, wide, slightly curved neckline that comes to a tapered point just bast the collarbones and hands on both shoulders

Crew Neckline
round neck that fits close to the base of the neck
in knitwear, crew neck tops may feature a ribbed band around the neckline. (like a classic t-shirt)

Plain or Jewel Neckline
round and sits at base of the throat

Deep Cowl Neckline
draped fabric at the neckline
has a narrow long opening and hangs from the shoulders near the neck

Wide Cowl Neckline
draped fabric at the neckline
wide shallow opening and hangs from the shoulders near the shoulders

Shirt Collar
classic collar with standing band that has 2 points at the front of the shirt
many variations of shirt collars (point, polo, button down, rounded)

Spread Point Collar
classic men’s shirt collar
WIDE spread between points

Straight Point Collar
classic men’s dress shirt collar
NARROW spread between points

Polo Collar
high close-fitting turnover collar with short placket
seen on “polo” shirts

Peter Pan Collar
flat collar with rounded ends that meet at the front

Rever Collar
upper part of some upper garments that folds back at or near the neck to give the appearance of a collar
formed from the same piece of fabric as the rest of the garment’s bodice

Sailor Collar:
deep cut and square at the back
tapering to a V-neck at the front

Shawl Collar
rounded turned down collar, WITHOUT lapel notches
extends down the front of the garment

woman’s collar for a low V-neckline, with stand and long points

small short, close fitting upright collar
Seen on Asian inspired clothes

Portrait Collar
wide neckline supporting a fold-over collar that overlaps the front of the garment

Flounce Sleeve
a flounce strip of material gathered or pleated and attached to the edge of a sleeve or skirt
semi fitted at the upper arm and has a flounce attached
can be any length according to the design
usually full and uses a good amount of fabric

Peasant Sleeve
full sleeve that is gathered at the shoulder seam and the wrist
elastic hem edge that fits closely to the wrist

Âľ Length Sleeve
extends from shoulder to a length mid-way between the elbow and the wrist

2 Piece Sleeve
two pieces of fabric that are joined together at the front and back of the sleeve
one of the pieces is smaller than the other which is on the underside of the sleeve closest to the body
often used in jackets for better range of motion
Bishop Sleeve
long full sleeve usually gathered at the wrist into a wristband
originally used on a bishop’s robe

Shirt Sleeve
sleeve with a barely rounded wide sleeve cap
sewn onto the shirt body before the side seam is sewn
could be long or short
long shirt sleeves usually have a cuff attached at the wrist

Leg-o-mutton Sleeve
full gathered or pleated top (near the shoulder) and is narrow and fitted at the wrist

Petal Sleeve
ala lapped sleeve
curved overlap along the outer arm

Puff Sleeve
short full sleeve with gathers at the armhole and lower edge near the band
band is at the bottom of a puff sleeve

Bell Sleeve
can be short or ling
set-in sleeve that is smooth at the armhole and then flared at the hem edge

Ruffled Sleeve
circular piece of fabric that is attached at the shoulder
fabric is gathered at the shoulder to create a loose flow look on the arm

Roll Sleeve
straight sleeve designed to be rolled or folded up into a cuff

Cap Sleeve
extending only a short distance from the shoulder and tapering to nothing under the arm

Raglan Sleeve
sleeve joined by a diagonal seam that extends from the underarm to the neckline
may have a dart to shape the shoulder or may have an additional seam along the outside of the arm for design purposes

Kimono Cap Sleeve
cut as one with the rest of the upper body of the garment
shape is usually angualr under the arm in contrast to curved (dolman sleeve)
short and barley covers the shoulder

Kimono Sleeve
cut as one with the rest of the upper body of the garment (no sleeve around the armhole)
shape is usually angula under the arm in contrast to curved (dolman sleeve)
Dolman Sleeve
may be cut as one with the rest of the upper body of the garment (no seam around the armhole)
shape is usually curved under the arm
usually long and fitted at the wrist

One Button Standard Cuff
a band of fabric attached to the end of a shirt sleeve
a standard cuff can have 1 to 2 buttons
cuff is top stitched around the edges

Two-button convertible band cuff
a band of fabric attached to the end of a shirt sleeve
two buttons are placed horizontally so that you can adjust the circumference of the cuff opening

Two button barrel cuff
wide band of fabric attached to the shirt sleeve
can have 1 to 2 buttons placed vertically on the band

French Cuff
wide cuff which turns back (towards the arm) and is fastened with a cuff link through all layers
ends of cuff do not lay flat against the wrist/arm like other cuffs

Ribbed Cuff
cuff is made of ribbed knit fabric which fits closely but is stretchy enough to slip over the hand

Roll Cuff
end of the sleeve is folded up to form a cuff
often times stitched down to fold its fold

Band Cuff
has not vertical opening like a standard cuff
it slips on over the hand
can vary according to design
can be rounded, square, or cornered on the bottom edge
