Noun
a person, place, thing, or idea
Example: The little boy drank the milk. (The nouns in the sentence are boy (person) and milk (thing).)
Subject
A subject is part of the sentence that does something
Object
An object is the thing that something is done to
Singular Nouns
A noun is singular when there is only one
Example- Baby
Plural Nouns
A noun is plural when there are two or more
Example- Babies
Rules for making plural nouns
-for most words, ADD -s
-for words that end in -o, -j, -s, -x, -z, -ch, or -sh ADD -es
-for words that end in -y ADD -ies
Common nouns
general words that are written in lowercase
Example- company or "mom"
Proper nouns
specific names that are written with a uppercase
Example- Honda (company name) or your father's name
Concrete nouns
Are people, places, or things that physically exist. We can use our senses to see or hear them.
Example- "She showed me the art she had created in class."
Abstract nouns
These are ideas, qualities, or feelings that we cannot see and might be hard to describe.
Example- "We takled about art"
Collective nouns
refers to a collective group or multiple number of something
Example- "A CLASS of students" or "A FLOCK of birds"
Pronouns
takes place of a noun or refers to a specific noun
Example- he, her, they, them, whom, she, him, its, it, which
Subject pronoun
I, you, he, she, it, we , they
Object Pronoun
me, you, him, her, it ,us, them
Possessive Pronoun
my, mine, your, yours, his, her, hers, its, ours, their, theirs
Relative pronouns
who, whom, whoever, that, which
Adjective
modifies and tells us more about the noun or the pronoun.
Examples- color, numbers, and descriptive words.
Verb
a word to describe an action, state, or physical action.
Adverbs
Describe actions (verbs); often end in -ly
Examples- quickly, heavily
The easiest way to find an adverb in a sentence is to ask these questions.
-Where was something done?
-When was it done?
-How was it done?
-To what extent was it done?
Conjunction
is a connector word. it connects words, phrases, or clauses in a sentence.
Example- and, so, or
Preposition
These are words that specify how something is related to something else in time and space.
Prepositions show direction, location, and time.
Example- at, by, for, from, in, of, on, to ,with, under, after ,before, up, down, about
Prepositional phase
can serve as various functions in a sentence, such as location, tie, direction, possession, or relationship between different elements.
