Photosynthesis
The process by which chlorophyll in the chloroplasts absorbs sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen.
ATP
Adenosine triphosphate, which serves as an energy carrier in cells.
Aerobic respiration
A process of cellular respiration that occurs in the presence of oxygen, yielding carbon dioxide, water, and ATP.
Anaerobic respiration
A process of cellular respiration that occurs without oxygen, producing lactic acid in animals or alcohol and carbon dioxide in yeast.
Light phase
The part of photosynthesis occurring in the grana of chloroplasts, where light energy is used to split water molecules.
Dark phase
The part of photosynthesis that occurs in the stroma of chloroplasts, where carbon dioxide is converted into glucose.
Homeostasis
The regulation of internal conditions, such as blood sugar levels, in a stable state.
Dentition
The arrangement and condition of teeth, which varies between herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores.
Mechanical digestion
The physical process of breaking down food into smaller particles, which includes chewing and churning.
Chemical digestion
The process of breaking down large food molecules into smaller, soluble molecules with the help of enzymes.
