Combination Reaction
Reaction in which two or more substances combine to form a new substance
Decomposition Reaction
Reaction in which a compound breaks down into two or more simpler substances
Combustion Reaction
Reaction in which a substance reacts with oxygen gas, releasing energy in the form of light and heat
Single Replacement Reaction
Reaction in which one element replaces a similar element in a compound
Activity Series
List of elements in decreasing order of their reactivity; Single replacement reactions only occur when the element that is doing the replacing is more reactive than the element being replaced
Double Replacement Reaction
A reaction in which the positive and negative ions of two ionic compounds exchange places to form two new compounds
Stoichiometry
The calculation of the amount of substances in a chemical reaction from the balanced equation
Mole Ratio
conversion factor that relates the amounts of moles in any 2 substances in a chemical reaction
A +B —→ AB
Combination Reaction equation
AB —→ A +B
Decomposition reaction equation
N + O2 —→ NO2 (HAS TO BE IN REACTANT SIDE)
Combustion reaction equation
A + BC → AC + B
Single Replacement Reactions equation
AB + CD → AD + CB
Double replacement reactions equation
