Alpha-1 Adrenergic Agonists
A class of drugs including ephedrine and phenylephrine (Neo-Synephrine®).
Adrenergic Agonists
A drug class represented by epinephrine (Adrenalin®).
Alpha-1 Adrenergic Blockers
A class of drugs including prazosin (Minipress®), terazosin, and doxazosin (Cardura®).
Beta-1 Adrenergic Agonists
A drug class represented by dobutamine.
Beta-2 Adrenergic Agonists
A class of drugs including formoterol, albuterol (Ventolin®), and terbutaline.
Selective Beta-1 Blockers
Drugs that target Beta-1 receptors including atenolol (Tenormin®) and metoprolol (Lopressor®).
Nonselective Beta Blockers
Drugs that block multiple beta receptors including nadolol, propranolol (Inderal®), and timolol.
Direct-Acting Cholinergic Agonists
A class of drugs including acetylcholine, pilocarpine (Pilocar®), and bethanechol.
Neostigmine
An indirect-acting cholinergic agonist that reverses actions of rocuronium bromide which causes respiratory paralysis from anesthesia.
Atropine
An anticholinergic used as an antidote for cholinergic poisoning.
Dicyclomine (Bentyl®)
An anticholinergic drug.
Physostigmine
An antidote for overdose of anticholinergics that has cholinergic activity.
Succinylcholine
A peripherally acting depolarizing skeletal muscle relaxant with no antidote.
Rocuronium bromide
A peripherally acting non-depolarizing skeletal muscle relaxant reversed by neostigmine or sugammadex.
Dantrolene (Dantrium®)
A direct acting peripherally acting skeletal muscle relaxant.
Centrally Acting Skeletal Muscle Relaxants
Class of drugs including cyclobenzaprine, carisoprodol (Soma®), methocarbamol, orphenadrine citrate, chlorzoxazone, and metaxalone.
Cromolyn sodium (Nasalcrom®)
A mast cell stabilizer/anti-allergic drug.
Generation I Antihistamines
Sedating antihistamines including brompheniramine (Dimetapp®), chlorpheniramine (Chlor-Trimeton®), clemastine, diphenhydramine (Benadryl®), hydroxyzine, promethazine (Phenergan®), and azelastine (Astepro®).
Generation II Antihistamines
Non-sedating antihistamines including loratadine (Claritin®), fexofenadine (Allegra®), and cetirizine (Zyrtec®).
Sympathomimetics/beta-2 adrenergic agonists
Bronchodilators that can be short or long acting, including albuterol (Ventolin®), formoterol, terbutaline, and salmeterol (Serevent®).
Xanthine Derivatives
Bronchodilators including theophylline (Theo-Dur®) and aminophylline.
Ipratropium bromide (Atrovent®)
An anticholinergic bronchodilator.
Combivent®
A combination bronchodilator containing ipratropium bromide + albuterol sulfate.
Cysteinyl Leukotriene Receptor Antagonists/Inhibitors
A class of drugs including montelukast (Singulair®).
Corticosteroids
Drugs for asthma or allergic rhinitis including budesonide (Rhinocort®, Pulmicort®), mometasone (Nasonex®, Asmanex®), fluticasone (Flonase®), flunisolide, and triamcinolone (Nasacort®).
Expectorants
Drugs that help clear mucus, such as guaifenesin (Robitussin®, Mucinex®).
Acetylcysteine
A mucolytic drug used in respiratory therapy.
Narcotic Antitussives
Cough suppressants containing narcotics such as hydrocodone or codeine/guaifenesin.
Non-narcotic Antitussives
Cough suppressants including dextromethorphan/guaifenesin (Robitussin DM®) and benzonatate.
Decongestants
Drugs that relieve nasal congestion including oxymetazoline (Afrin®, Dristan®), phenylephrine (Neo-Synephrine®), and pseudoephedrine (Sudafed®).
