Job Satisfaction
The level of contentment and fulfillment employees feel about their jobs.
Engagement
Employees’ level of motivation, passion, and commitment to their work.
Intrinsic Reward
Personal satisfaction derived from completing a task or achieving a goal.
Extrinsic Reward
A reward given to you by someone else, such as bonuses or praise.
Scientific Management
A theory of management that analyzes workflows to improve efficiency.
Hawthorne Effect
The phenomenon where individuals modify their behavior when they know they are being observed.
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
A motivational theory comprising five levels of needs, where satisfying a lower level leads to the emergence of higher level needs.
Motivators
Factors that contribute to job satisfaction and productivity, mostly related to job content.
Hygiene Factors
Elements of the work environment that can cause dissatisfaction but do not necessarily motivate.
Theory X
The management view that people inherently dislike work and need to be controlled to achieve organizational goals.
Theory Y
The management view that people enjoy work, are self-motivated, and seek responsibility.
Expectancy Theory
A theory that states that individuals are motivated based on the expected outcome of their efforts.
Equity Theory
The theory that employees compare their job inputs and outcomes with those of others to determine fairness.
Job Enrichment
A strategy that enhances the job by making it more rewarding to the employee.
Generational Differences in Motivation
Different motivating factors relevant to various generations in the workforce.
