Race
A grouping of humankind based on shared physical or social qualities that vary from society to society.
Ethnicity
Shared culture that includes heritage, language, religion, and other common practices, norms, and beliefs of a group.
Minority Group
Any group of people who are singled out for differential and unequal treatment.
Dominant Group
A group of people who have more power in a society than any of the subordinate groups.
Institutional Racism
Racism that is embedded in the policies and practices of societal institutions that disadvantage minority groups.
Scapegoat Theory
The theory that dominant groups displace their aggression onto subordinated groups, often justifying their dominance.
Confirmation Bias
The tendency to interpret evidence in a way that confirms existing beliefs or prejudices.
Colorism
Discrimination based on the shade of skin tone, typically within a single racial group.
Anti-racism
Active efforts to reduce or eliminate racism through internal and external policies and practices.
Model Minority Stereotype
A stereotype applied to a minority group seen as achieving significant success without challenging the establishment.
