What type of mutation causes sickle cell anemia?
missense
Which band has the one band
homogeneous -/- or ++
how are (fish) proteins separated
according or molecular weight
name three uses of PCR
forensic science, who’s the daddy, and genetic disease
DNA fingerprinting relies on what variation/DNA sequence?
STR Region
Two individuals with identical DNA finger bonding patterns
twins/ very related
which proteins were affected/limited with sickle cell disease
red blood cells
what does the GA (Glutamic Acid) promote?
amylase
Which irons are required for amylase activity?
Calcium
ABA functions primarily do what?
inhibit seed germination
what does vmax represent
maximum reaction rate
how many dna doubles after 5 PCR cycles
2^5 = 32
purpose of IKI (iodine)
binds to starch to produce a colored complex (change to blue) ; absorbance decreases, starch increases
SDS (Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate) Function
dissolves the lipids (fats) in the cell membranes and the nuclear envelope. It also denatures proteins, "unfolding" them so they no longer function. Think of it like dish soap cutting through grease to get to what’s inside.
chellex function
protects the DNA from being destroyed by enzymes. acts like a chemical magnet that grabs metal ions (specifically Mg 2+). prevents these enzymes from chopping up your DNA sample before you can use it.
what does the gel do
separates proteins in mixers based on molecular weight
