When was the Manchurian crisis & what happened?

1931-33

  • Japan claims it needs to restore order after a bomb exploded near the South Manchurian Railway — takes control of Mudken

  • China appeals to the League - by the time the issue is considered, Chinchow (Manchuria’s administrative capital). Japan claims it doesn’t have any ambitions in the area

  • By 1932 they have Shanghai. China appeals again
