Terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon; led to a focus on eliminating terrorism.

President Bush

Iraq War, initiated by him, there were many allegations later proven false that Iraq possessed certain weapons, leading to the own American people not liking his choices

Afghanistan

Afghanistan was the initial focal point of the US Global War on Terror, launched in 2001 to destroy al-Qaida and remove the Taliban after the 9/11 attacks, becoming America's longest war.

The Taliban

fundamentalist islamic government of afghanistan. gave al qaeda a safe haven to train and plan

Guantanamo Bay, Cuba

US military base used as holding detainees from Afghanistan in the base. brought them to Guantanamo bc it wasn't on American soil so gave them more ability to do whatever they wanted with the detainees

Saddam Hussein

Iraqi dictator who waged war against Iran (not good person at all)

Weapons of Mass Destruction

nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons that can kill tens of thousands of people all at once

Al Qaeda in Iraq

a sunni organization, and now that they saw Hussein gone, they thought they could release a lot of violence and terror in Iraq and cause more trouble for America

ISIS

a sunni group, inspired by Al Qaeda, very violent terrorist group.

Abu Ghraib Prison

with Hussein gone, US ran the prisons for them. American soldiers running prisons, regularly humiliating Iraqi prisoners (everyone already knew America wasn't there to help, but to impose own rule)

President Obama

Obama went into election with an anti-war mentality, people liked this (especially after Bush). he faced difficulties bc other armies were trying to fight harder and it wouldn't be easy if we are trying to draw back from war. he wanted to get rid of Guan. Bay but no one liked the idea bc then prisoners would be released and would be dangerous. obama was raised a Muslim, so people assumed he was doing this to help Muslims

President Trump

used 9/11 to exploit the event. wanted a full shut down of Muslims. had a weaponized anti-Muslim view and bring it into our country for everyone to hate them
