What are some examples of Eating disorders?
Anorexia nervosa, Avoidant/ restrictive food intake disorder, Bulimia nervosa, Binge-eating disorder
What is Anorexia Nervosa?
Persistent restriction of energy intake, leading to low body weight, an intense fear of gaining weight/ becoming fat, A disturbance in the way in which body weight is experienced.
What complications can anorexia nervosa cause? And how do you remember it?
Hypotension, bradycardia (slow heart beat), osteoporosis, endocrine abnormalities. Annorexia is a restrictive intake - low intake, low heart rate, pressure, nutrients (bones or something)
What is bulimia nervosa?
Recurrent episodes of binge eating with inappropriate compensatory beavhiours - self induced vomiting, misuse of laxatives or diuretics, fasting or excessive exercise.
What is refeeding syndrome?
This syndrome can occur in any starving person. It occurs when starvation depletes the bodily stores of phosphate, magnesium, potassium and thiamine. Refeeding further depletes the stores of the nutrients.
what has to be taken into account when refeeding?
Refeeding must proceed cautiously with frequent measurement and replacement of these nutrients.
