How many carbons make a gas?
1-4
How many carbons make a liquid?
5-18
How many carbons make a solid?
18+
What happens if the number of C goes up?
Melting and boiling point go up because it will take more to turn it into a liquid then gas
What is water solubility based off of?
It is based on H, H2O, N, O, and number of Carbons
What makes something water soluble?
If it has O, N, less than 5 C, - charge, and + charge
What makes water insoluble?
If it has H2O, CH, or more than 5 C
Why is H2O insoluble?
It is hydrophobic in other substances which makes it water insoluble
What is a primary alcohol structure?
The OH is in a straight chain
What is a secondary alcohol structure?
The OH is connected under the C with 2 other C beside it
What is a tertiary alcohol structure?
The OH is connected under the C with 2 other C beside it and 1 above it
What makes something a primary amines?
The NH is directly connected to one other CH
What makes something a secondary amines?
The NH is connected to CH from both sides
What makes something a tertiary amines?
The NH is connected to CH from 3 different sides
What makes something hydrophobic?
C and H with no O or N
What makes something hydrophilic?
C, H, O, N
What makes a hydrophilic substance an acid and a base?
N, N+ for base and COH for acid
