Before the Common Era (BCE)
The time before Year 1 in the Gregorian calendar system.
Common Era (CE)
The period of time that occurs from the year 1 of the Gregorian calendar.
Old Kingdom Egypt
A period of time in Ancient Egypt lasting from 2575BCE to 2150BCE.
New Kingdom Egypt
A period of time in Ancient Egypt between around 1520BCE to 1075BCE.
Ancient Egypt
One of the world's first great civilisations, starting more than 5,000 years ago along the Nile River.
The Nile River
The 'lifeblood' of Ancient Egypt providing water, fertile soil, and opportunities for travel and trade.
Nomadic people (Settlement)
Groups of people who settled and began to farm in Egypt around 3500BCE, particularly around the Nile River.
Atum
The creator god who created himself at the beginning of time, often depicted wearing the double crown and holding the ankh.
Ma'at
The concept representing order and balance in the Ancient Egyptian worldview.
Human Responsibility (Creation Story)
The expectation that humans would uphold Ma'at and care for the land.
Pschent
The double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt worn by the creator god Atum.
Ankh
The Ancient Egyptian symbol of life.
Khonsu
The Ancient Egyptian moon god.
