Bar Magnet
A magnet that has a north and a south pole, and when flipped over, the south pole will attract the north pole of other magnets.
Magnetic Field
The area around a magnet where magnetic forces can be detected.
Right-Hand Rule
A method used to determine the direction of the magnetic field relative to the direction of current flow.
Compass
A device that shows the direction of magnetic north, used to determine the orientation of a magnetic field.
Solenoid
A coil of wire that generates a magnetic field when electric current passes through it.
Current Loop
A closed loop of wire carrying an electric current, which generates a magnetic field.
Magnetic Force
The force exerted by a magnetic field on a magnet, another moving charge, or a current-carrying wire.
Attraction and Repulsion
Forces that cause magnets to pull together (attraction) or push away (repulsion) based on their poles.
Electron Beam
A stream of electrons that can be deflected by a magnetic field.
North Pole of a Magnet
The end of a magnet that points toward the Earth's geographic north when allowed to pivot freely.
