Formation of Pakistan and Bangladesh
Pakistan and Bangladesh were formed as separate countries based on the dominant religion after gaining independence from British rule in 1947.
Coming of Islam
Islam was brought to southeast Pakistan in the A.D. 700s by Muslim invaders and traders, and later to Bangladesh by Muslim traders, becoming the majority religion in both areas.

Pakistan is the sixth most populous country with a high population growth rate, while Bangladesh is the eighth most populous country with a dense population and successful fertility rate reduction programs.
Society and Culture
Pakistan is ethnically diverse with six main ethnic groups, while Bangladesh is predominantly Bengali with a small percentage of non-Bengali indigenous groups.
