Where does an animal’s energy come from?
An animal’s energy is derived from the food they consume.
Humans primarily use fats and carbohydrates for fuel. When does the body use carbohydrates for fuel? When does the body use fats for fuel? Why is the body preferential in the types of fuel it used for activities?
The body uses carbohydrates for fuel when performing height intensity exercises. The body uses fats when performing activities that are not your fastest speed. The body is preferential in the types of fuel it uses for activities because of a trade-off between how quickly these fuels can be converted to useful energy versus how much energy they contain.
How do animals transform fuels, like carbohydrates and fats, into usable energy (ATP)?
Animals use oxygen to transform metabolic fuels into usable energy, ATP, releasing carbon dioxide, water, and heat.
What type of metabolic fuel requires more an oxygen to burn?
Burning fats requires more oxygen than burning carbohydrates.
