Elder abuse
Any knowing, intended, or careless act by a caregiver (family, friends, or formal providers) that causes harm or a serious risk of harm to an older adult.
Neglect
This is characterized by a failure to provide adequate care. Signs include poor hygiene, dehydration, malnourishment, or the presence of torn clothing.
Financial Abuse
This involves the misappropriation of the older adult's funds. OTs may notice unexplained changes in checking accounts or missing financial resources.
