Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone (GnRH)
A hormone produced by the hypothalamus that stimulates the anterior pituitary to produce FSH and LH.
Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
A hormone produced by the anterior pituitary that promotes growth of ovarian follicles in females and spermatogenesis in males.
Luteinizing Hormone (LH)
A hormone produced by the anterior pituitary that stimulates the production of testosterone in males and triggers ovulation in females.
Testis Determining Factor (TDF)
A gene found on the Y chromosome that determines male sex characteristics; its absence leads to the development of female characteristics.
Quad Screen
A test performed during pregnancy that measures specific substances in the blood to assess risk for certain genetic conditions.
FSH in Males
Stimulates spermatogenesis, the process of sperm production in the testes.
FSH in Females
Promotes the growth of ovarian follicles and stimulates production of estrogen.
Exam Guidelines
Instructions to ensure that only the exam is open during testing; having any other tabs open may lead to disqualification.
