What is a PDF?

PDF files are platform-independent files that retain all the original designer’s layout and font information. PDF is the standard format for providing digital proofs to clients, as well as final files to commercial printers

What is the Place Command used for?

Used to import both graphic and text files into InDesign. This is always the preferred way to bring graphic files into InDesign

What is the difference between the Selection Tool and the Direct Selection Tool?

Selection Tool - selects the frame and the content

Direct Selection Tool - selects content only

What is Leading?

(pronounced ledding), also called Linespacing, is the amount of space between each line of type, as measured from baseline to baseline

What is Kerning?

the process of adding or subtracting space between specific pairs of characters

What is Tracking?

the process of loosening or tightening the letter spacing of a block of text

What is the Bleed area?

the area of an object that extends past the edge of a page tocompensate for variations in the output process

What does Packaging a file do?

The Package utility automatically collects all the necessary components and places them in a separate folder which can then be sent to the printer for output

What is Character Formatting?

any option that affects the appearance of selected characters, such as font, size, horizontal scale, etc.

What is Paragraph Formatting?

paragraph formatting affects an entire paragraph, and can control everything from indents to the space between paragraphs to lines above and below paragraphs
