Variable
A letter that represents a number.
Coefficient
A number that is multiplied by a variable.
Solution
A number that can be used in place of the variable to make the equation true.
Equivalent Expressions
Expressions that are always equal to each other. If the expressions have variables, they are equal whenever the same value is used for the variable in each expression.
Like Terms
Parts of an expression that represent that same variable or constant.
Distributive Property
A way to find an equivalent expression that shows multiplying a number by a sum or difference is the same as multiplying the number by each term individually and then adding or subtracting the products.
Exponent
Tells you how many times to multiply the base number by itself.
Independent Variable
The variable used to determine the value of another variable.
Dependent Variable
The result or outcome of a calculation.
