Cultural Responsiveness
An approach to assessment that emphasizes understanding and integrating the cultural backgrounds of individuals.
Consecutive Interpreting
A method where a primary speaker communicates in their language, followed by an interpreter relaying the message to the listener.
Limited English Proficient (LEP)
A term used to describe individuals who do not speak English as their primary language and have a limited ability to read, write, speak, or understand English.
Dual Language Learner (DLL)
An individual, typically a child, who is learning two languages simultaneously.
Overidentification
The common practice of disproportionately identifying diverse children for special education services.
Cultural Humility
The practice of recognizing that one does not know everything about other cultures and that all cultural variabilities are valid and important.
Cultural Assimilation
The process by which individuals adopt the practices and values of another culture, often losing their original cultural identity in the process.
Ossicular Chain
A series of three small bones in the ear that transmit sound vibrations from the eardrum to the oval window.
Eustachian Tube
A tube that connects the middle ear to the back of the throat and helps equalize pressure in the ear.
Incidence
The number of new cases of a specific condition occurring within a certain time frame.
Prevalence
The number of individuals living with a particular condition at a specific point in time.
Chronic Health Conditions
Long-term health issues that can significantly impact an individual's quality of life.
