Vocation
The life calling of every human being. It includes work, personal growth and development, and possibly marriage. It is broader than a job and comes from the Latin vocatio meaning "a call" or "a summons."
Creation
The belief that the universe and all forms of life were created by God out of nothing.
Work (Christian)
Something every person is created to do; any activity where a human participates in God's creative work, including ordinary everyday tasks.
Recreation
Activities that renew personal energy and help prevent stress and tension.
Chasity
The ability to harmonise sexual thoughts, feelings, and desires, and to see others as God does — as whole persons beyond just sexuality.
Discernment
The ability to recognise or understand something, someone, or a course of action more fully and deeply, often leading to a decision.
Eucharist
A sacred celebration in which the bread and wine become the body and blood of Christ.
Spiritual Sacrifice
Offerings made to God by a follower of Jesus, including prayers, good works, money, praise, and offering oneself.
Prophet
person in the Bible who was called by God to speak on God's behalf.
Salvation
God's saving action for humanity that destroys the power of original sin and enables people to overcome its effects.
Subdue
To develop the goodness in creation responsibly, rather than dominate or exploit the earth and its resources.
Christian Vocation
To live like Jesus by:
putting others first (priestly role),
speaking for the poor and powerless (prophetic role),
caring for and stewarding creation (kingly role).
Procreation
The cooperation of parents with God in the creation of their children.
Marriage
A loving and life-giving relationship between one man and one woman for the rest of their lives.
Sacrament
A visible sign of the invisible presence and action (grace) of God.
Priest
An ordained minister who serves the spiritual needs of God's people by:
bearing witness to Jesus,
leading the community,
celebrating the Sacraments.
Apostalte
The work carried out by ordained ministers, consecrated religious, or lay people in service of the Church.
Celibate
An unmarried state chosen for religious reasons, involving sexual self-denial for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven.
Deacon
An ordained minister who assists priests and bishops in teaching, sanctifying, and governing the Church.
Holy Orders
The sacrament through which the mission of Christ continues in the Church; it includes three degrees: bishop, priest, and deacon.
