What is globalisation?

  • Giddens: Globalisation refers to the increase interconnectioness of societies

  • Waters: A social process in which limits of geography on economic, political, social and cultural arrangement have declined

  • Globalisation has been encouraged in the past due to advanced in traditional forms of communication e.g. televisions

  • More recently it has been due to the development of information technology including the internet and acceleration in international migration.

AO1:

  • Kelly: British education policy aims to allow our students to compete with international students.

  • The British economy is global. Skilled workers are required to keep us in the G7 of richest nations.

Impact of globalisation: Commodification of students

A01: Globalisation has led to the commodification of students (balls)

A02: British university compete to attract overseas students who pay higher fees. They have also set up universities overseas based on British ‘brands’. Many British students study in foreign universities that specialised in certain fields e.g. engineering in Germany.

A02: Schooll must teach students about other faiths and culture beyond the white 81% and Christians 11% dominate culture of Britian.
