  • designed to trick you into revealing info (passwords)

What is Spear Phishing?

• Phishing email (or IM) targeted to a specific individual

What is Smishing?

• using fraudulent text messages to get you to take action

  • usually contains a link leading to fake website (to enter private/sensitive info)

What is Quishing (fraudulent QR Codes)?

• fraudulent QR codes, often in public places ( restaurant, parking meters & posters)

  • usually contains a link leading to fake website (to enter private/sensitive info)

What is Voice Phishing?

• victims are called by a recording/live person to give sensitive info

What are examples of Voice Phishing?

• call from IRS saying you have unpaid taxes & make an immediate credit card payment to prevent police coming to arrest you

• “support” person from Microsoft saying they have detected malware on your computer, but if you download certain software, they can remove it

What is Pharming?

• redirecting users to fake websites even the correct address is typed

  • known as DNS poisoning, or DNS spoofing

    • can use VPN which uses private DNS to prevent this

What is Kidnapping (grandparent) scam?

• scam where an imposter claims a family member has been kidnapped, injured, or in trouble & urgently demands money

What is clickjacking?

• where clicking on link allows malware to post unwanted links on your page

What is clickbait?

• link that teases you w/ enough info to get you to click link —> driving traffic to a web page
