  • “support” person from Microsoft saying they have detected malware on your computer, but if you download certain software, they can remove it

  • redirecting users to fake websites even the correct address is typed

    • known as DNS poisoning, or DNS spoofing

      • can use VPN which uses private DNS to prevent this
