Ampere's Law
Describes the relationship between current and the magnetic field it produces in surrounding space.
Solenoid
A coil of wire that generates a magnetic field when carrying an electric current.
Right Hand Rule
A method to determine the direction of the magnetic field generated by a current; the thumb points in the direction of current, and fingers curl in the direction of the magnetic field.
Torque
A measure of the rotational force on an object, such as the force that causes a wire loop to turn in a magnetic field.
Electromotive Force (EMF)
The voltage generated by a changing magnetic field, which induces current in a circuit.
Direct Current (DC)
Electric current that flows in one direction only.
Alternating Current (AC)
Electric current that reverses direction periodically, commonly used for power supply.
Transformer
A device that transfers electrical energy between two or more circuits through electromagnetic induction, used to change voltage levels.
Magnetic Flux
The total magnetic field passing through a given area; changes in magnetic flux can induce an electromotive force.
Electric Generator
A device that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy through electromagnetic induction.
