what is a suitable indicator for titration

methyl orange or phenolphthalein

2
New cards

why is universal indicator not suitable for a titration

  • too large of a scale/ range

  • no distinct visual change

3
New cards

states the solid equation

mass = mr x mol

4
New cards

state the liquid equation

mol = vol x conc

5
New cards

state the gas equation

vol = mol x molar volume

6
New cards

state the equation linking cm3 and dm3

cm3 = 1000 x dm3

describe the method of a titration

  • Rinse the burette first with distilled water and dilute hydrochloric acid

  • Rinse the pipette with distilled water and dilute calcium hydroxide

  • use the pipette bulb to transfer 10.0cm3 to a conical flask

  • add 3 drops of methyl orange

  • fill the burette with hydrochloric acid, take initial volume

  • add acid to calcium hydroxide until indicator changes colour (pale orange)

  • record volume of acid

  • rinse conical flask, then repeat until 2 results are concordant
