what is a suitable indicator for titration
methyl orange or phenolphthalein
why is universal indicator not suitable for a titration
too large of a scale/ range
no distinct visual change
states the solid equation
mass = mr x mol
state the liquid equation
mol = vol x conc
state the gas equation
vol = mol x molar volume
state the equation linking cm3 and dm3
cm3 = 1000 x dm3
state the equation linking gdm-3 and moldm-3
gdm-3 = moldm-3 x Mr
what is the measurement of volume
dm-3
what is the measurement of conc
moldm-3
what is the measurement of molar ratio
24 dm-3
24,000 cm-3
describe the method of a titration
Rinse the burette first with distilled water and dilute hydrochloric acid
Rinse the pipette with distilled water and dilute calcium hydroxide
use the pipette bulb to transfer 10.0cm3 to a conical flask
add 3 drops of methyl orange
fill the burette with hydrochloric acid, take initial volume
add acid to calcium hydroxide until indicator changes colour (pale orange)
record volume of acid
rinse conical flask, then repeat until 2 results are concordant
