North-South Divide
Refers to the socio-economic and political divisions between wealthy developed countries (the North) and developing countries (the South).
Brandt Line
An imaginary line proposed by Willy Brandt that separates richer (North) and poorer (South) nations.
More Economically Developed Countries (MEDCs)
Countries characterized by high levels of income, industrialization, and social development, primarily found in the Northern Hemisphere.
Less Economically Developed Countries (LEDCs)
Countries characterized by low levels of income, industrialization, and social development, primarily located in the Southern Hemisphere.
Nation-state
A political entity characterized by a defined territory, a permanent population, and a government recognized by other states, where legitimacy is derived from the right to self-determination of national groups.
Global Interstate System
A competitive economy structured by political interactions and trade among nation-states on a global level.
International Monetary Fund (IMF)
An international organization of 189 countries, aimed at ensuring global monetary stability and facilitating international trade.
World Trade Organization (WTO)
The largest international economic organization focused on ensuring smooth and predictable trade between nations.
Sustainable Development Goals
A set of goals articulated by the United Nations in 2015 to create common objectives for promoting global prosperity.
Intergovernmental Organization (IGO)
An entity created by treaty involving multiple countries to work on issues of common interest, governed by international law.
