Ben Day dots

printing process using colored dots. dots are closely spaced, widely spaced, or overlapping to create different colors; only cyan, magenta, yellow, and black are used

Fauve

wild beasts. a term used by french expressionist artists to describe themselves and their work

Abstractism

creating an image, object, or monument using no naturalistic representations of humans, animals, or objects. abstract art is nonobjective.

Primitivism

the european and american interest in so called “primitive” cultures (african, oceanic, south american) and time periods (medieval europe). using anti academic techniques to depict these anti modern subject matter

Biomorphic Forms

organic shapes that suggest people and or animals but aren’t quite recognizable

Hierarchic Scale

the most important person is depicted as the largest figure in a composition

Masks

used by many different cultures around the world. they are worn or displayed:

-in dance ceremonies and rituals for a variety of purposes

-to represent spirits or powerful figures in the community

-to convey complex meanings
