Deltoid Muscle
A muscle that allows for flexion, medial rotation, extension, lateral rotation, and abduction of the arm.
Rotator Cuff
A fibrous sheath formed by the tendons of four muscles that stabilize the shoulder joint.
Suprascapular Nerve
A nerve that innervates the supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscles, responsible for shoulder stability and movement.
Axillary Nerve
A nerve that supplies the deltoid and teres minor muscles; injury can result in shoulder flattening.
Teres Major Muscle
A muscle that assists in the adduction, extension, and medial rotation of the arm.
Subscapularis Muscle
A muscle responsible for medial rotation and adduction of the arm, preventing anterior dislocation of the shoulder.
Action of Infraspinatus
Rotates the arm laterally and aids in adduction; prevents backward dislocation of the shoulder joint.
Quadrangular Space
An anatomical space in the shoulder region that transmits the axillary nerve and the posterior circumflex humeral vessels.
Suprascapular Foramen
An opening formed by the suprascapular notch and ligament; allows passage of the suprascapular nerve.
Teres Minor Muscle
A muscle that aids in adduction and lateral rotation of the arm; helps prevent upward dislocation of the shoulder.
