Closed Lapel Guard Entry
Extract the lapel with your right hand and shoot it through under the armpit and feed it over their other shoulder to your left hand which grabs at the end of the tail
With right hand draw back and grab material from the lapel under the armpit and pull it deeper to remove any slack
If you try to grab the lapel with your right hand they’ll block you, so instead, shoot your right hand under them like you are going to underhook the opposite arm, and then come up and grab the lapel with your right hand, palm up.
Pull with your left hand and slide your right hand deep.
Closed Lapel Guard Finishes
Attacks
Cross collar choke
With your left, reach over their back and grab bunched up material over their back to begin the choke.
As they try to posture or stand to escape it’s easy to sink in the choke deeper.
Compressor choke
when they use their left hand to block the cross collar choke use the left hand to arm drag it across and do a compressor choke
Back take - lapel drag them across then use left hand to grab the far lapel
Closed Guard - Other Lapel Attacks
Ezequiel - pull the head down with the right collar grab. With your left hand pull their lapel over your hand and around their neck. Your Right hand blades on the inside and anchors on their lapel.
Deep Ezequiel - Reach over their shoulder and grab their gi and pull it up until you can bunch it up in your right hand (on the left side of their head). Take left hand and feed it through the bunched up gi and punch choke into their neck.
Sucker Choke - Left hand overhooks and grabs the collar. Right hand grabs the collar on the right side. Circle elbow around their head to the cross collar choke.
Arm Bar - feed lapel under the arm and grab deep by the armpit on the outside with left hand. Pinch elbow tight. Right hand grab the wrist. Pull the arm across to the left as you hip escape right. Right hand threaten a cross collar choke on the far shoulder as you pull them in. Then as they try to posture, push their face away and bring leg over top.
Triangle - Feed the lapel over the shoulder to the left hand. Then put your foot in the lapel behind them, which elevates their left hand so you can come over it with your right foot.
Pablo’s Cross Collar and Lapel attacks
Get a right hand cross collar grip. Use the left hand to grab his opposite lapel tail (grab like a rope, not at the very end but with firm grip, thumb down).
Overwrap choke - Take the tail and go over your right arm, then bring it around their head and pull down. Raise your right elbow high.
Ezequiel variation - from the overwrap choke, let go of the cross collar grip and grab your left forearm (don’t grip the sleeve, just grip at the wrist like a kimura revving).
Closed Guard Overhook Series
Entry - From the Left overhook, grab the lapel with left hand. Far side foot posts on the hip as you hip out to the side. Knee pinch over the shoulder
Attacks from Overhook
Straight Arm Lock - your top knee comes behind your overhook elbow. Lean shoulders away to apply the straight arm lock. If they are pulling away, palm grip the back of the elbow and apply
Cross Collar Choke - Use your free hand, punch choke into neck.
Far Side Arm bar - When their arm comes forward to stop choke, gran their sleeve and pull their arm in. Far side knee pinch into their tricep. Bring far side leg over their head and arm bar
***From the Overhook you can also bring your near side leg over their back and shin the back of their head to turtle armbar. With the Overhook this tap comes very quick so be careful
Closed Guard Triangle
Entries
Knee pin the arm - Double sleeve control, right knee comes over top of the arm, pinning it. Knee drives the bicep back then slides leg over the shoulder chopping down.
Ryan Hall Hip bump - Do not control the left hand so it can post. Use your right hand to grab high on the collar. Now as you bump up, you can also use the right hand to help drive them back. Once they post, pull their head close and bring your right foot over the back. Do not fall back into it. With your right leg over their back, bring your left leg over the shoulder and switch to the correct side triangle.
Finish - Right knee should be slightly below the Earline. Left leg cover the far shoulder completely and bring your left knee to your right ankle. Both heels should point in the same direction. Throw your left leg over your right foot, keeping knees pinched.
Variations:
They pull their arm out. Left hand controls the leg. Right hand slides in to grab the leg from underneath. Other leg returns to complete the triangle.
Variation - they stack. Right hand scoops the leg, rotate and roll them back
Variation - they pin the leg. Power prop up and sort of hip bump over them while keeping the triangle to rotate them sideways
Closed Guard - Roger Gracie Arm Bar
Elbow and wrist 2 on 1 control, just pull their elbow off your hip. Throw your leg over the shoulder. Connect ankles behind the back. Pinch far knee in to keep them from wiggling out.
High Guard Option - From triangle trap, swim your feet up and climb the back till you can triangle your legs then attack the bottom arm
Akins Scissor Sweep
Have a lapel grip with right hand.
Switch to scissor guard by sitting on your left hip.
Your left foot should be flat on the ground along their leg
Your right leg is a low knee shield. The foot must be higher than the knee
To sweep, just extend out the right leg to break them down on their right hip
Use collar control to follow them up
Leg Lasso Entry
Starting from feet on the hips, controlling the sleeves.
Knees should be wide always.
Get on right hip, with a high left knee and right foot posted on their hip. Pummel the foot over the arm and swim under their armpit while holding the sleeve
The Lasso foot should be behind their back, with your shin in the shoulder.
Your grip should be behind your thigh so it punches into your thigh with your grip. Your elbow should be pulled back.
Keep your leg bent to put less pressure on your grip. Do not extend your leg until you are ready to sweep.
Leg Lasso - Knee Wheel Jab Sweep
Put your bottom leg outside with ball of the foot by the pinky on the ground.
Use this leg to shoot your hips across so the lasso hip is on the ground.
Try to bring their elbow to the mat.
Use your other foot as a drive off point
***This sweep is a jab because you don’t lose anything but on experienced people you may only get very little response.
Leg Lasso Knee Shield - Load Up Sweep
Entry:
To get to the Knee Shield Lasso
Free hand grabs the pants
Bring free foot to instep the near side hip and create a sort of backward knee shield
Load Up Sweep
Stretch to extend them
Load him up by pulling knee tight and to the outside turning perpendicular to them
roll him in direction of the feet, not the direction of the opposite hip
Elbow on the floor, bottom foot covers their leg to half guard,
pull yourself up to an outside knee slice
Leg Lasso Spider Sweep
Be on your side working to their outside.
Either they put weight on you or you scoot your hip in
Turn from left to right hip with your butt sliding under you. So they come on almost on top of you. Do not extend the spider. You are just switching from one side to another
Extend the spider over your head and to the side to roll them over you as you pop the sleeve up to raise their elbow
Leg Lasso Suma Gaeshi sweep
Free leg push off the hip to create space
Insert lasso butterfly hook
Grab their collar and pull yourself up
Pull yourself under him and throw him outward to the side of the lasso
Leg Lasso Response 1 (RDLR) - Knee slice
As they bring knee up use lasso and free foot to extend them away
Insert free foot into Reverse De La Riva
Free hand grab ankle and lasso leg comes on top of the bottom foot
Pull in as you roll him to outside using both feet to sweep to put his hip on the mat
Leg Lasso RDLR to DLR sweep
Put free foot on the hip
Dig lasso leg into DLR to far hip
Put free foot on mat to push off. Get perpendicular

Leg Lasso Response - Grabbing the bottom knee
Option 1 - Drive
Release the free arm sleeve.
Power Prop up to your elbow.
Come up onto your bottom knee and drive into them to force them to post with their hand
Option 2 - Spider Guard
Grab their sleeve and post bottom leg onto their bicep.
Leg Lasso Response - Lapel Grip
If they grab your lapel:
Bottom leg goes to half guard.
Extend away from them and break the grip.
Leg Lasso Response - Stepping up Outside the legs
One foot steps up outside the legs
Grapevine sweep
Bring leg through and grapevine their leg.
Grab the far side elbow and pull it up to roll them to the side
***As another option you can also do a push sweep by kicking back into their base leg as you use the lasso to rotate them over.
Leg Lasso Knee Shield - Berimbolo
As you bring foot across to knee shield, free arm cross scoops the outside of the leg to help you spin under.
Triangle and Omoplata attacks
Wristlocks from Closed Guard
Kotegaeshi - drive elbow to the ground and arm up and over the hand. Use leg to assist in sweep
Sleeve Grip Counter - they grab your wrist. Use other arm forearm over their forearm to keep their elbow down and reach to own bicep on other arm for a sort of rnc grip. Fingers peel upward

Closed Guard Kimura Entry
After inside clearing the hands, Right hand collar tie and Left hand pin their same side wrist to your hip - to prevent the body lock
You can also do a 2 on 1 grip, push their hand left with opposite hand straight arm, then pass off to near side hand and kimura.
Right hand swims inside then Unlock legs and Sit up to Kimura.
As you are falling back, pull the wrist behind back and rotate perpendicular to them with a shrimp.
Pull your right elbow down and pull your knees to your chest so they can’t posture up.
K Guard Basics
Hand fight - Start with inside hand position controlling the wrist and shoulder of the side you are attacking.
Leg Entry - Open feet and turn to side almost a partial inversion. (R for example), put right knee inside of their knee line, with your instep on their hip. Bring outside leg to the far armpit like a leg lasso so instep can pull them forward, and so they can’t push your foot away to clear it, keeping the knee high to prevent it from getting crushed down. .
Scoop Grip - As they press forward, your left hand swims under the armpit to redirect them and your right hand goes to the scoop grip
Scoop Grip - bring their knee to your sternum. Start with your free hand on the tricep to block their frame, then as you pull them forward, transition to the Gable grip, and keep your left elbow to your hip. In the gi, you can feed their lapel to your scoop grip hand.
You want to load them up and direct them away to their hands and knees.
K Guard to Backside 50 50
Extend them out using free foot and hand
Kick leg over to the back of their leg and weave. Use other foot to extend the knee away to try to prevent them from sitting on the far hip.
Triangle your legs
Swim your top hand under their foot and pull their heel across to the top side. Apply the heel hook
Roll through - As they roll through, bring your inside knee to the ground, then step your outside foot over and under the far leg like a honey hole. Keep hold of the leg so they don’t pull it in and cross their feet.
Knee on Top - If you can’t get their knee to the bottom, swim your arm under and over to go for the knee bar.
K Guard Options
They grab the far side foot - pull in hand for pendulum sweep or arm bar
Crossface - Frame and bring your outside knee to the back of their head. Switch legs and Triangle
They post and backstep the foot - arm drag and pull them across you, then reshoot the scoop grip. Pendulum sweep
Sitting Heavy on Scoop-
Far leg only step up - butterfly hook and sweep
Stand up - X Guard or Backside 50 50
They scoop far leg with near side hand - Switch sides
Sitting back heavy - Akins scissor sweep
Pressure forward - Pendulum sweep or arm bar
