1. Oxygen comes in and goes to the blood

What is respiration?

Gas exchange from blood to the outside world

What does respiration help with?

1. Gas exchange

2. Regulating body pH

3. Allowing pathogens to get in

Where do we want air to go in terms of pressure?

From high (Lumen for nose and trachea) to low pressure (further down the system)

What is Inspiration?

Breathing in

What is expiration?

Breathing out

What symptoms can happen in upper respiratory system?

A sneeze

Is upper respiratory issues less severe or more severe?

Asthma and Bronchitis

How many lobes are in the left lung? Name them?

2 lobes

Why does the left lung have less lobes?

Because the heart sits on the left

What is the diaphragm?

A muscle that is below the lungs and above the abdomen that helps you breath

What does the diaphragm separate?

1. Thoracic cavity

What is asthma?

A disease where the bronchioles close

What is COPD?

A disease where alveoli is damaged

What happens when alveoli is damaged? What can you do to fix this?

Gas exchange no longer can occur

• You can fix this by getting your own oxygen supply

What does snoring do?

Prevent Gas exchange

What does mucus do for the respiratory system?

Works with water to capture and trap the air

What is the normal breaths per minute?

18 breaths per minute

When air gets in the body what happens to it?

It gets warmed and humidified
