These vocabulary flashcards provide definitions for key Islamic concepts regarding prayer, purification (Ghusl, Wudu, Tayammum), and different types of prayers based on the lecture notes.

Prayer
The second pillar of Islam and a way of worshipping and communicating with Allah.
Khushu`
A state of serenity, devotion, calmness, and consciousness of Allah required during prayer.
Taharah (Purity)
A ritual state whereby a person is allowed to perform certain acts of worship, such as Prayer, Tawaf, or reading the Qur’an.
Hadath
A ritual impurity that a person must remove to achieve the state of Taharah.
Hadath Akbar (Major Ritual Impurity)
Impurity caused by Janabah (ejaculation or intercourse), Haid (menses), or Nifas (post-natal bleeding) requiring Ghusl.
Hadath Asghar (Minor Ritual Impurity)
Impurity caused by anything coming out of private parts, full-mouth vomiting, excessive bleeding, or deep sleep requiring Wudu’.
Ghusl
A ritual shower or bath that includes rinsing the mouth and nose and washing the whole body.
Wudu’ (Ablution)
A ritual washing of the face, forearms, and feet along with wiping the head to achieve purity.
Isbagh
The proper wash of limbs, including washing a bit over the elbows and ankles during Wudu’.
Tayammum (Dry Purity)
An alternative form of Taharah performed with dry natural components of earth (sand, stones, or earth) when water is unavailable.
Wiping over Socks
A sunnah concession in Wudu’ where socks are wiped once on the upper side, allowed for 3 days for travellers and 1 day for locals.
Fajr
The dawn prayer consisting of 2 Rak`ahs.
Zhuhr
The midday prayer consisting of 4 Rak`ahs.
`Asr
The afternoon prayer consisting of 4 Rak`ahs.
Maghreb
The sunset prayer consisting of 3 Rak`ahs.
`Isha’
The night prayer consisting of 4 Rak`ahs.
Qiblah
The direction toward which a Muslim must turn during prayer.
`Awrah
The parts of the body that must be covered as a condition for the validity of Prayer.
Pillars of the Prayer
14 essential acts of prayer that, if missed, invalidate the prayer unless they are made up.
Takbeerat Al-Ihram
The first pillar of prayer involving saying "Allahu Akbar" to begin the ritual.
Tuma’ninah (Tranquillity)
The pillar of performing the prayer calmly and without rushing to maintain concentration.
Wajib (Compulsory of Prayer)
Required acts of prayer that, if forgotten, do not invalidate the prayer and can be rectified with Sujud As-Sahw.
Sujud As-Sahw
A couple of prostrations performed at the end of the Prayer due to making an error or forgetting something.
Sunan of the Prayer
Recommended acts or sayings, such as the opening Du`a’, that do not impact the validity of the prayer if omitted.
Mu’akkadah (Highly Recommended) Sunnah
A set of 12 optional Rakahs performed daily: 2 before Fajr, 4 before Zhuhr, 2 after Zhuhr, 2 after Maghreb, and 2 afterIsha’.
Qasr (Prayer Reduction)
A concession for travellers on journeys of at least 83km to reduce four-Rakah prayers to two Rakahs.
Jumu`ah (Friday) Prayer
A compulsory congregational prayer for men performed on Friday at the time of Zhuhr, consisting of 2 Rak`ahs and a Khutbah.
Janazah (Funeral) Prayer
A collective duty (Fard Kifayah) consisting of four Takbeers performed in a standing position without Ruku` or Sujud.
Witr Prayer
An odd-numbered prayer of 3 Rakahs performed betweenIsha’ and Fajr.
Istikharah (Consultation) Prayer
A two-Rakah prayer followed by a special Dua’ used to ask Allah for guidance on a choice or matter.
