Smudging

Concealing the application of marks by either applying them seamlessly (such as by creating such smooth and closely-applied shading with pencils that the hatching becomes invisible), or by rubbing in the media using a finger or smudging tool

Blending

With the pencil tip, but soft enough so that you don’t see the lines

Stippling/Pointillism

Continuous Contour outline

Creates one line that has no breaks → may have overlapping, but follows structural lines

Contour Hatching

Shading lines that follow the outline

Contour Cross-hatching

Lines that cross over but still follow the contour

Scribbling/scumbling

Squiggly lines.  The closer they get, the darker the shadows appear
