Dot Plot
A way to represent data on a number line where each time a value appears in the data set, another dot is placed above that number on the number line.
Variability
Having different values.
Statistical Question
A question that can be answered by collecting data that has variability.
Frequency
How many times a piece of data occurs in the data set.
Histogram
A way to represent data on a number line where data values are grouped by ranges, and the height of the bar shows how many data values are in that group.
Spread
Tells how far apart the values are in a data set.
Symmetrical
A data set where the left and right sides mirror each other, with the mean, median, and mode are all equal or close to being equal.
Distribution
Describes how values in a data set are spread, clustered, or dispersed, revealing patterns, central tendencies, and variability.
Mean
The average of a set of data, found by dividing the total by the number of groups.
Median
The middle number of a set of data when the data set is listed in order.
Mode
The number that appears most often in a set of data.
Range
The largest number minus the smallest number in a set of data.
Inner Quartile Range (IQR)
The 3rd quartile minus the 1st quartile.
Box Plot
A way to represent data on a number line where the data is divided into 4 sections; the sides of the box represent the 1st and 3rd quartiles, a line inside the box represents the median, and lines outside the box connect to the minimum and maximum values.
